Bio:
He had the idea of publishing a publication for Latinos while vice president of University of Houston’s LULAC council. After recruiting Edgar Veliz, Norma Vasquez, Ruth Montanez and Selena Vasquez they founded the first multi-university bilingual publication in Texas.
Getting The Venture published monthly has been a learning experience and adventure for Ray. Many in the industry advised Ray to forgo a print publication and keep The Venture’s content online only. Frustrated, Ray was convinced that having a print newspaper was essential and commissioned a survey of 100 college students to get insight on how they receive their news. The results of the survey encouraged Ray to stay the course and move forward with both a print and online version of The Venture.
Ray has appeared on Fox’s Hola Houston, ABC’s Viva Houston, Nuestra Palabra’s radio 90.1, and interviewed on The CW for a story on The Venture.
After graduating from UH in 2008, Ray decided to go back to get his Master’s degree in education to help further the development of the students in The Venture.
Raymond is also co-founder of Latino Giving, a philanthropic organization for young professionals, which funds Houston area non-profits that further the advancement of the Latino community.
He lives in Houston’s Medical Center area with his wife Cindy Cedillo-Ruiz, a family medicine intern at Baylor College of Medicine.
