Houston will play an important role in the upcoming Pan American Games this October in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Before the 17,000 athletes and 32 delegations head out to Mexico they will arrive in Houston to get their uniforms and gear.

“This is an exciting time for athletes and coaches to get cool gear,” said Jean Lopez, a Pan American Games Gold Medal Taekwondo Coach in 1999 and 2003.
The athletes will fly courtesy of United-Continental and will be staying at the Hilton Hotel. Their visit will only be about 24 to 36 hours.

The Pan American Games is multi-sport event for nations on the American continent that are held every 4 years.

This is an important event Mexico will hold and is ready to assist the athletes. The Pan-American Games will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14 to 30.

Dr. Luis Malpica y de Lamadrid, Consul General (Mexico) is looking towards the positive impact it will have for Mexico.

“This event benefits tourism in Mexico. We are expected to have 1,200,000 people coming over,” Malpica said.

Twenty days after the Pan American games end the Parapan American games will start. Houston native and current Paralympics USA team member Jordan Moutin is looking forward to the event.

“I’m looking forward to winning. This is always a fun experience,” said Moutin.
