Want to be a nurse? The three new learning communities for health science majors will focus on making coursework relevant to your preparation for professional schools.

HCC will launch six new Learning Communities for health science this Fall 2011. A Learning Community (LC) is simply a group of students co-enrolled in two or more courses linked by a common theme.

The focus of these LC is to make learning relevant to students life and their preparation for professional schools using the following strategies.

Case studies will be used as individual or group projects to bring together the material from the two linked courses. This goal is to help students practice how to do case studies for their advanced clinical courses.

Students will work on real-life problems that deal with common course content. This problem-based learning is used widely in health care institutions.

All LC courses will be web-enhanced. Students will access course material from HCC’s e-learning platforms of Moodle or Blackboard.
