Hispanic Heritage Month: One Heritage, Our Month

On August 17, 1988, congress passed PL 100-402 officially recognizing September 15 -October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month.
This month is designed to honor the culture, contributions and achievements of Hispanics in America.
Recognition first began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Johnson and later extended to 30 days under President Reagan in 1988.

9/16-Independence of Mexico
9/18-Independence of Chile
10/12-Dia de la Raza
*Listed Latin American Countries achieved independence from Spain.
