Parents should plan on shopping for school items in July instead of August.

The 82nd Texas Legislature has passed bills that, together, change the days of the state’s annual Sales Tax Holiday from August to July beginning in 2012.

The Sales Tax Holiday for 2012 will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 27 and end at 12 a.m. (midnight) Sunday, July 29.

The dates of the Sales Tax Holiday were established by determining the earliest possible first date of school (the first Monday in August), then counting back eight days and finding the Friday before that date.

No changes were made to the items eligible to be purchased tax free during the holiday. Eligible clothing and footwear are still exempt during the holiday. You can see a list of eligible items at state’s Sales Tax Holiday website.
