Houston Cougars avenged their earlier season loss to Rice, escaping Tudor Fieldhouse with a 76-75 win. Darian Thibodeaux led all scorers with 21 points, while Alandise Harris added 16 points.

The Cougars were up by as many as 10 points with eight minutes remaining in the game, however, the Owls managed to rally back with a 19-7 run and led by one point with 16 seconds left.

The Cougars were able to score the biggest points of the game when Rice was issued a technical foul for calling a timeout it did not have. Thibodeaux was able to make both free throws with two seconds left.

Houston was able to finish the regular season over .500 (15-14) with this win, while finishing 7-9 in conference play.

Arsalan Kazemi led all Owls with 19 points, Lucas Kuipers had 12, and the Rice bench outscored the Cougars bench 40-12.

Houston will enter the C-USA tournament the ninth seed and will face eight-seeded UTEP on Wednesday, while seventh-seeded Rice will faces tenth-seeded East Carolina.
