Latinos in College, a New York based education non-profit, comes to Houston for the first time to conduct a workshop aimed at parents of high school seniors.

The workshop will be facilitated by accomplished college students who will provide parents with various strategies on how to support students from freshman year until graduation.

“Besides helping me with tuition and books, my parents didn’t initially know how to support me as I’ve grown into a young professional. If parents want us to succeed, we need their help and understanding on everything from study habits to career development. It’s no longer just about grades like in high school.” said Claudia Miranda, current college sophomore and workshop facilitator.

According to Miranda, the workshop will walk parents through campus life, essentials for career development, the benefits of student organizations, what to know about professors and the unspoken college aspect of college.

After the workshop, a tour is of the University of Houston campus is scheduled. Bedoyecta, a vitamin supplement company, provided the sponsorship for this workshop and others around the country.

The workshop is April 27 @ 9:00 am at the University of Houston’s University Center in the Bluebonnet Room. Email: director@uhelgato.com for more details
