UH dia de los muertos celebration

The Latin Greek Council and the Council of Ethnic Organizations are collaborating for El Dia de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead event on Friday November 1st, 2013 11am-1pm at Lynn Eusan Park.

Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday that honors and celebrates the lives of family and friends who have gone before us. Different Latin American countries also celebrate Dia de los Muertos in their own unique way. The common theme that runs through the two-day celebration, traditionally held November 1st and 2nd, is the belief that the dead return home, visit loved ones, and feast on their favorite foods. During the gathering of families and friends, they build altars honoring their deceased loves ones using sugar skulls, marigolds and their favorite foods and drinks.

The event will have performances by Mariachi Revolución, a mariachi live band, face painting, we’ll play Loteria, a traditional board game played throughout the Latin community similar to Bingo, and pass out FREE FOOD! Sabor Latino Dance Society performers will also take the stage during the event.
