After falling for the charming Sir Thomas Sharpe, played by English actor Tom Hiddleston, the young writer Edith, played by “Alice in the Wonderland” star Mia Wasikowska, leaves her home in America to join her new husband in the eerie Sharpe mansion. There, she is haunted by a ghostly figures while her sister-in-law, Lady Lucille played by Jessica Chastain, is anything but welcoming as Edith discovers the sinister secrets the mansion and her new family hold.
Mexican film director Guillermo del Toro did an excellent job giving this love story a gothic twist by making it an a hair-raising thriller. From the first scene, Del Toro sets the mood with the Victorian-style costumes and the old school camera transitions. It was an outstanding movie overall with visually attractive settings and impressive cast performances that were emotionally engaging.
Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chasten did an incredible job portraying themselves as deeply damaged siblings and kept the suspense throughout the movie.
