METRO provides the people of Houston efficient transit services. One of the challenges for them consist on trying to connect the METROrails with B-Cycle, which creates a more effective system. Bikes are METRO’s latest answer to making transportation easier in such a crowded town like Houston.

I accepted the challenge and decided to go for a ‘Ridescapade’ with Jackie Gil-media specialist for METRO and some other bloggers and I have to say I was truly impressed of how easy is checking out a bicycle. I took it to the METROrail with no difficulties, respecting the rules of circulation on the platform.+

One of the alternative transportation is offered by Houston B-Cycle, which is a bike share program that sets you free from your car and relies completely on you! Whether you’re just out for a walk or commuting to work. The B-Cycle is the best alternative!

In order to move through the downtown area easier, METRO created a program called “First and Last mile” it consists of riding a bike before getting on a train and then riding it until your destination. Currently METRO is trying to get a B-Cycle station close to all the rails stops, which would be a great acquisition.

Another advantage of this great relation between METRO and B-Cycle is that you can see the beauty of the city. In case you didn’t know: In the State of Texas Bicycle Laws “a person operating a bicycle has the rights and duties applicable to a driver operating a vehicle”. According to Houston Traffic Section, “no person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk in the City of Houston”

If your interest in bikes is not only to make transportation easier but also a passion there is a museum about bikes in Houston! They have bicycles from 1860s and interesting watch parties for all events and competitions related to bikes. Houston Bicycle Museum is free of charge on Thursdays and always waiting for the curious visitors.

As my “Ridescapade” was coming to an end I realized how nice was to change my car for a tour with the METROrail and how effective is to ride a bike in downtown. Changing our habits for a day may result in a gratifying surprise!
